In yesterday’s budget the Chancellor retained the Energy Price Guarantee, much to the relief of consumers. The chart below shows just how steep the rise in energy prices has been. While the difference between what would have been paid under the price cap and what will be paid under the guarantee is narrowing, the prices remain eye wateringly high compared with 12 months ago.
